Can you be successful surf fishing form say October through March? I have always wanted to take a trip to FL during the winter, but I would like to know if the fishing would be any good?

During October the water will still be warm. I believe once the water temp hits 63, you will probablly be rising off a lot of tackle. You do have good chances on the Bull Reds and Catfish and Rays will be your main takers. Not many guys on the beach in our area in the winter, guess they don't want to foul hook a Snowbird. LOL!

Thank you for the info!

love in KY, so I am used to fishing in the winter when temps can reach -5 degrees! I fish for walleye and sauger on the river, and they spawn in the winter.

Here is another question:

Do party boats and charter boats still run in the winter months? I know snapper season closes, but are there aother fish that can be caught in the winter-time?

Winter surf fishing can be really fantastic.  I reliably caught pompano and bull reds all winter long, with Feb. being the only slow month.  Before the water gets too cold 2-hook rigs with fresh peeled shrimp or sandfleas will catch the pomps.  A fishfinder rig with half a mullet will attract the reds.  Once the water gets cold, I pick my days.  When the surf gets really stirred up by an E/SE wind fish in a hole or cut in the bar.  I believe the rougher surf stirs up the bottom and incites better feeding.  Remember, dress warm, and wear waders if you have them.  Two more bonuses of winter fishing are: few if any other people fishing and the fish I catch, though not quite as many, tend to be significantly bigger.  Shoot me a PM if you want more specifics. Tight lines.
