Have the king mackerel disappeared from the nearshore waters(within 5 miles of the beach)? Based on my catches(non-catches), it really seems so!

We've been catching a lot of them off orange beach within 5 miles for the last 3 weeks or so. We are catching them on the troll with plugs and spoons as well as live baiting around the inshore rigs. My favorite way is casting large spoons around nearshore wrecks or rigs, letting it sink to the bottom and than reeling it in as fast as you can. With the smaller size of the kings inshore this time of year you will have a lot more fun doing this with light tackle than trolling with conventional gear.

Have you tried downriggers, divers, or planers to get your baits down?

I have been having the most luck trolling green or red spoons behind #2 or #3 planers. Every now and then I will get one on a skirted king rig on the the surface. Now that you know my trolling spread go and try it out. Troll between 4.5 to 6 mph's.
