I am a recent transplant to the Gulf Breeze area from the Mississippi Coast. Most often I fished the Louisiana marsh for specks and reds and I would like to target them over here too. I have a 23' bay boat that can take me amost anywhere. Traditionally, I have used artificial baits in the form of soft plastics and top water lures. I realize that after some time I will learn the area and begin to develop my favorite spots. Until then, where do I begin fishing? What are the favorite artificials for this area.

Thanks in advance for any advice to the newcomer.

With all the rain we have had lately most of the fish are in the ICW. On a year with little to no rain the fish would be concentrated more in the bays and river mouths like Escambia and Blackwater. Early morning gold spoons in the grass flats work great right now. I use a 1/4oz weedless johnson spoon. Gulp! jerk shad are also a great choice. There are lots of reds in along the shoreline in the ICW but getting them to eat is another story.
