I am going down to OB this weekend. Has anyone caught any Pompano lately? Is it still too early in the year to catch any?

Quite a few of our customers have been lately on small pieces of fresh shrimp. Most of them have been around 11-15 inches but I did weigh a 3lb. fish for a man 2 days ago.

Pompano are 'touch and go' this time of year. I can go on a rising tide early in the AM and manage to catch a couple or three.

The Fall Pompano run will start as soon as the water temps start falling over in Texas and Louisiana. I keep a close eye on forums from both states. I used to watch the Popcorn Tree in the swamp behind my house: when it budded in the Spring, it was time to hit the beach and when the fruit(whatever) matured, it was getting time for the Fall run. The storms have blown all the fruit off so it's watch the beach.

Go when you can! Set out a line for whiting and fish with jigs for Pompano. JMHO C2
