Dream Theater is one of the best bands i have ever heard, and their genre of music isnt even one that i really like.

| Man that is a tough question. Roy Buchanen has always been my favorite. He is an obscure, eccentric type of a guy who ended up hanging himself in a jail cell but boy could he play. Youtube has a lot of videos of his. Check out "Hey Joe" if you go there. Duane Allman on slide guitar, Mark Knopfler [dire straits] for tone, Eddie Van Halen for pioneering a totally new way of playing a guitar.
