Could be a bladder infection. Sorry I couldn't resist. It might be that a dirt dobber has partially clogged the tube and it is making it shoot out further. Other than that I haven't a clue.

Curious, do you normally run the engine trimmed up? If not, you may have a very strong stream when you run it and the angle is lower. With it trimmed up, it's just a different angle causing it to shoot further back. Just a thought.

You might want to have a compression test done on that motor, sounds like some extra pressure there. [ Read , head gasket maybe ]
