| 850Lover, This question has 100 answers. It really depends on what your fishing for, what type of live bait you are using, and what you want your bait to do. A bait hooked in the back third of it's body will fight hard to get away (swimming away from you), a bait hooked in the top of the body will fight hard to swim to the bottom,(I like this one when fishing with a balloon). I also find that fish hooked from bottom of mouth up through the nostrils tend to stay alive longer. Sorry this answer is so vague. Just a hard question to give a specific answer to.
