| Brought the rods to work with me yesterday and me and a co-worker hit up the sea wall at Portside on NAS Pensacola. Got there about 3:30pm or so. We had some mullet to use as cut bait. For about an hour we couldn't even get anything to steal our bait. We started to talk about how much longer we wanted to stay out in the cold (it was getting pretty cold) without even a bite. Not 5 minutes later, my rod gives a little bounce and I pick it up. It bounces again and I set the hook and we were off to the races on my light tackle rod with 10lb test. A short drag peeling fight later, I get a nice red to the sea wall. Then I think to myself, how the hell am I going to get him up this wall. We didn't have a net. Another gentleman came running over with a net to save the day and I landed a nice 26" slot redfish. A big thanks to him. I didn't get his name. But thanks again. From then on the bite was pretty steady with us at least loosing some bait. I caught two small flounder that I lost bringing them up the wall. Then I hook into what feels like another red. Sure enough, another slot redfish. Only this tiime, our net had left the area. My co-worker leans down trying to grab the leader and as soon as he pulls up, the fish shakes off the hook. Oh well, we are at least catching fish now. My co-worker hooks into what looks like a keeper flounder, (may have been 13"-14") but looses it bringing it up the wall again. Note to self, bring net next time. Left about 6:30 and we couldn't feel our hands by this time. But I got a keeper red for the grill. Didn't have the camera on me and I will post pics of the fish later tonight when I get home. He's cooling off in the fridge right now. Didn't have a chance to clean him last night. Plus it was just too damn cold to clean him last night.

you gonna give up your telum for a everriculum polus? Only when it's blowing like a crazy out there and I can not get underwater. Or to fill in the time between dives. I once was a fulltime topside fisherman. Then I turned to the darkside.

| great report john! i find that when i bring the net i catch none or only trash fish. so i leave the net at home. if i cant get him with the boga then i didn't need him. thats from a boat. a sea wall is a different story. i think in that case the net curse would be ok. if it was a tournament thats a different story. sounds like a fun afternoon other than not being able to feel your fingers.

Good report Jon, I think we have all learned the no net/flounder lesson before. You just cant pull there heads out of the water without a net under them.
