got the carbs cleaned and the guy said that i wasted my money because there was absolutely nothing wrong with them, now i am back to the start again took the boat out this afternoon to run it i left out of the swamp house and when i gave the boat full throttle it came on plane quickly ran great for about 5 minutes and then it started acting up again like it was running on 3 cylinders crept back to the launch and loaded the boat as i was strapping down the back side i noticed green oil coming from the lower cover below motor so i took off the cowan and there was alot of oil built up in the front cover now my question is will this happen i that cylinder isn't firing and second is there any way to test the ignition coil. i started it at home and it run fine it seem it just doesnt run when it warms up under pressure i have replace plugs wires, stator, rectifier, and timing advance i think thats what its called could it possibly be a blown head gasket or am i going in the wrong direction any help with this matter will be appreciated

Elecrically, the powerpack is about the only thing left other than shorting wires. Ther could be an issue with the VRO pump that will cause similar issues. The ignition system can be checked out, but I would recommend checking it with an output test. It may have to go to the water if the problem cannot be pinpointed out of the water. I can look at it if you need me to.

Spin it over and see which bank isn't firing. Then remove the good power pack and put it on the bad side. If you then get spark then you have solved your problem. Power paks are known for breaking down only once they have warmed up. If this happens offshore I have heard of icing down the pack for a faster return to the dock!!

I'm no mechanic, but I had a problem similar to that.  I could give the gas and it would take off great and run for a few minutes then act like it was running out of gas and spit and sputter.  It turned out the air vent for the gas tank was cloged.  It would suck gas until it formed a vacume in the tank, then it would act up.  Hope this helps!

Thanks!
