That's great news.

Just backs up the point we've been making all along -- that being they don't know what they're talking about.

It's your future

Finally a group with some sanity. Now getting the council to acknowledge the report will be the next trick.

Drifting is a poor mans way of trolling

I especially like the part where they examined the past figures and under NMFS rules and formulas, their own numbers would then indicate that 58 spieces of Gulf fish have become endangered and then rebounded, presumably on their own ..............

NMFS appears to have it's own agenda. They have consistently ignored any data that disagrees w/ what they apper to want to find??? I have to think it's personal-somebody has an axe to grind...never heard any good explanations-but usually FOLLOW THE MONEY answers most questions...

Stamas 2550 Family Fisherman w/225F Hondas, Sport Craft 252 FishMaster w/a 6cyl. I/B V-P Diesel & a 22' Triton Seaflight w/200 Evinrude Ficht (b/c you need 3 boats, 1 to use & 2 to work on)

"follow the money"
The majority of money in the state of Florida is in South Florida. They do indeed have a "shortage" of red snapper. Of course, red snapper don't normally inhabit those waters. Snook do. Maybe we (North Florida) should declare a snook shortage up here?

Just wanted to clear a few things up... Someone posted a comment stating "Finally a group with some sanity. Now getting the council to acknowledge the report will be the next trick." Well, the head of the LSU group that wrote this paper (Jim Cowan) actually is on the council. He is on the Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC). This committee has recently (2007) been given more power within the council, in that what they decide for management decisions is now pretty much the final word. He may have recently changed his tune, but he's been pushing for stricter regulations for a long time and was in favor of the recent votes to reduce the catch limits and season. I'm not saying that the current regulations are not going to help the fishery overall (maybe not the fishermen), because I think they will. What I'm saying is that this guy really hasn't been saying that the fishery is in better shape than is thought. Another professor who's been saying and showing that the fishery is not as bad as it seems is Stephen Szedlmayer from Auburn University. He is also on the SSC and has consistently been voting to keep the limits as they had been. I guess it's not news until someone from Louisiana says it.
