There are a few live bottom areas that are relatively close but nothing like south FL. The ones we do have are pretty much all public knowledge and usually stacked with boats this time of yr and with snapper just opening, your better off finding some offshore structure with no one on it and you can chum the mangrove up to your stern. There are some really big ones out there this time of year.

RE: Inshore - Nearshore take your pick.

Chumming works very well for Red Snapper.

I've seen them stacked up behind the boat on occasions.

Red Snapper fishing is a little different than Yellow Tail Snapper as far as tackle, but a lot of the same techniques are used to catch our gulf snappers. Is this true for these gulf snapper? Still learning the ropes. Today’s trip started out at 05:30 in the morning before the sun came up, and the bite was red hot just like the temperature at high noon. We hooked specks on top-water, soft body jerk baits, and live shrimp. I also had my clients free-line out a small, live pinfish, and just when we were down to our last pinfish, we boated a nice 23” speck.

Aron's 23" Speck !

What a way to end the trip! Not only are we hooking up some nice specks lately; we have also been catching ladyfish, bluefish and even a few Spanish mackerel.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Just a little further offshore on Friday I went out for few red snapper, and the bite again was red hot. By 9am we had our limit of snapper and decided to hit the beach in search of jacks or ladyfish. We didn’t see any jacks, but the ladyfish were thick, and they are a blast to catch on light tackle.

It's time for a fish fry!

Kip holds up a nice 24" Red Snapper he caught 5 miles off the Pensacola Beach

Most of the specks were caught on top-water plugs like a small Jr top dog. I was also using a Golden Bream Exude Shrimp rigged on a 1/8oz jig head, and it was just what they wanted. The king bite has not really turned on yet, but it shouldn’t be long and the bite will be on. The water temperature has warmed up quite a bit the past few days and a lot of bait schools are showing up along beaches.

Scott holds up a nice 21" Speck.

Summer is here, and that means great fishing.
