Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?

So they have you hooked for the ink.

Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................

you won't believe it...................

but it is true........................

$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

But if you are like me you refill your own cartriges...

1 US gallon = 3 785.41178 ml

2-39ml ink refills @ $12.00/pk

78 ml total......

$582.37/Gal:doh

Yall are right about having twins headed offshore but to find 2 that are the same HP could prove difficult. A spinaker may be needed to capture the "wind" for maximum thrust.:) Tom,I have some artwork for sale in the off-topic section if your interested. Its for a good cause too.

Okay,Snipers idea of a blowboat gave me a few ideas and I think I came up with a reasonable solution for an alternative fuel source. BEANS,yep thats right,good ole fashioned american baked beans. Gas prices?????????????? I know it's really bad, but it makes me more and more happy every week (as the prices climb) that I bought this little get-up a couple of years ago. AND it's a blast to ride around in at 30+ WOT, and burning less than a gallon an hour.... 4 rocket launchers, unsinkable, 2 coolers, tri-battery rig, trolling motor set-up, running lights, dock lights, under $10,000, ect., ect...... Ohhh and the pics are from the Pirates Mardi Gras Floatilla.....

Murph...you are EXACTLY right. So instead of going out with 2 people you go with 4 (safer anyways). All less then $100.00 for the trip per person. For me...add the time and fuel for 250 miles (500 round trip)..and I'm looking at another $100.00+. So a trip for me will be in the $150.00 to $180.00 range. Don't like it but can live with it. When will your boat be ready so I can spend another $150.00.:banghead:banghead:banghead

Susan and I are both retired, but I do pick up a dollar or two now and then. We are on a moderate income, but I still can make a trip when everything is right, without hurting our pockets.

I have fished for 30 years in South Africa. Gas prices are on average 2 to 3 times what they are here. Plus the sea is way rougher. This is the affects i saw: Boats were smaller and designed differently. Except for the mega rich, most folks ran a 15 to 22 ft boat more Panga style so it could have 2 two smaller motors like 35 to 70's on the back. Or small cats.

Mostly we ran with only one motor in the water and got around 20 to 25 mph on good days. The boat i used most was a Kei cat 505 (about 16 ½ ft) with two 50 hp yamaha's on the back and 4 x 20 litres gas tanks. That is 10 gallons per engine.
Self bailing decks and strong grab rails. We handled BIG seas in that.
But you pick your days.
As the price of gas goes up I think the market for conventional boats over 23 ft(except cats and panga style ones) will start to die here in the States.
People have circumnavigated the world in 21ft boats.
Bigger ones can be way more comfortable, not always more sea worthy. But at any size they always make lousy lawn ornaments if they cost too much to run.

Are you military, DOD, retired, or contractor? Militay, retired military and DOD (civil service) have access to Sherman Cove. A CAC card works as long as it's not green for a contractor. And you must have DOD decals on your tow vehicle.

I also noticed where diesel went to $4.26 a gallon in Milton today. It's getting to the point where running a diesel truck or boat because of the fuel economy doesn't apply anymore

I think I would look into learning to sail and get a sail boat before I give up fishing. BUt the fuel prices are crazy!

with gas prices like they are i still go 2 or 3 times a week i just have to find a few friends that will help with gas. if gas keeps going up though i will just have to cut to once every outher week or fish closer to shore :hoppingmad

This is the first year that I will not just put the boat in the water and go at the drop of a hat like I have been in previous years. Man I used to just cruise some days from Pensacola and Orange beach. We don't do that anymore. I need other's to help and I am so glad I have access to Sherman Cove. But it still takes an arm and a leg to trailer the boat from Milton all the way over. But it's still cheaper than making the ride in the boat. This is the first time ever that I have thought for one second about being boatless.

I think most people will still find a way but it will be adjusted. Like I can't justify going out by myself and my ol lady for the day. I can however justify it for the weekend, we spend Fri, Sat, and Sunday morning out. If we want to go out for the day we make sure we arent alone on the boat. We take people that split the cost. It isnt just fuel prices rising. It is also the value of the dollar falling. I see no end in site.

Gas prices haven't affected my fishing trips, a blown 225 Yamaha sure has!! Once I get that fixed I will be back out there....I hope!!

Up until this year, If we wanted to dive, the wife and I would take our boat out even if we had to go by ourselves. This year we have decided to go only if we have two others with us who are willing to share expenses. At just over 2 miles to the gallon, dive trips are getting just too expensive.

As gas prices go up I just make adjustments to the boat to conserve more fuel. IE,I have the enclosure and bimini top off now and out for repairs so I ran the boat yesterday and noticed conciderable fuel savings and performance due to less drag. Might keep it like that for the run out or until the top of my head catches fire from the sun.:hotsun Sucked with the wind the way it was yesterday though!
