If the boat is rated for 150HP I would go with the 135 though.
MY guess on price, on a new one about 17K. If you buy one that is a 2007 maybe around 15K. That is wired price.

IF it were me, I would go with the 150 Yamaha and talk to Kenny though. I would also use a 4 blade prop on a poonton boat. If you don't think you will use it much for sking then most diffently a 115 HP or 90 HP.
No need to go over 20 MPH in a poontoon boat. It's for parting, relaxing, pull a tube and giving the kids something to fish off of, IMHO. ( Just being on the water in other words. )

RE: Honda Outboard Prices

I haven't seen a pontoon with a motor that large either. I didn't think it would be rated for that large of a motor and was curious why I never see a big motor on them. This will be my first pontoon boat and we are stripping everything including the deck out and rebuilding it to be a center console. It will just be used for playing on the rivers and only looking to run about 15-20 mph. However if I wanted to pull a tube or other toys I would want to have enough HP to get the job done. Thanks for all the replies and keep em coming. Anybody have a 24' pontoon and pull toys, let me know what you have.

RE: Honda Outboard Prices

Some pontoon boats are planing pontoons. They have "wings" up front.

I was at Lake Martin last summer. I was sitting out on the deck watching boats go by and a storm came up. I watched some of the fastest pontoons that I have ever seen in my life. Some of them had 150 - 200 horses on them. I was amazed.

RE: Honda Outboard Prices

Ya, you hardly ever see a pontoon with over a 75hp.... Unless it's water-logged or fully fiberglass... I would say use a 50-90hp... there not built for speed there built to carry some ppl and cruise..

edit... 38bat where'd you rent one from? and how much if you dont mind me asking..?

RE: Honda Outboard Prices

Just curious, why would you need that big of an outboard on a pontoon? We rented one a while back that was 24' and had a 50hp four stroke. Fuel use was almost not even noticable and went 20+ with 4 of us and gear. Was a lot of fun but I don't think I would spend the extra money for hp.

RE: Honda Outboard Prices

Rough guess $15,000.00 at least.

Honda Outboard Prices

I am buying a pontoon boat without the motor and controls. It needs alot of work and will be looking to power it with a Honda. The boat is 24' and rated for up to a 150. I was wondering how much I would be looking at with buying the 150 motor and controls and having them installed.
