I have been lurking for a week or so now and have read lots of good information.  A little background, I along with 3 buddies and wives and kids will be spending a week at Perdido and have come across a guy i work with that has some rods that he is willing to let me take for the week.  My delima is, we know little to nothing on surf fishing (we all know how to catch bream, catfish, bass and any thing else that swims in freshwater) and the rigging may be a challenge.  Are we going to end up spending a couple hundred dollars to get these rods rigged up with leaders, baits, hooks and other random stuff for 2-3 hours of frustration every morning?

Or are we looking at $25 worth of stuff and a lot of fun?  We would like to eat some of them, but a fight is most of the fun for me anyway.  Thanks for the advice and I am sure more questions will follow.

Couple packs of hooks = 7-10$

Spool of line = 4-10$

Couple pounds of lead = not exactly sure.. cant be too much

Couple pounds of shrimp + mullet or two = 12$

Go for it! rig up 2-4 oz pyramid sinker (depending on roughness) use floro leader if possable
