What does everyone use in their skiffs for a good trolling motor battery? I use a 50lb optima blue top. It seems to lose a charge after maybe 30 minutes of use and it is a relatively new battery.
I am looking for something light thats lasts for a couple hours of use.

All three of my batteries (2 deep cycle/trolling...1 cranking) come from walmart. The reason I chose to go with walmart was explained to me by a friend yearsago. What happens when your batteries don't work at 4 AM or while you are somewhere on a sunday afternoon and  nothing is available till monday at 9 am?  There is ALWAYS a walmart nearby, no matter where you are, AND they are almost all open 24 hrs. Walmart has NEVER hesitated to exchange my batteries if needed right then and without question.

A lil interesting info...  There are actually only a few manufacturers of batteries and they then place the name brand labels on the batteries depending on what store they are shipping them to, i.e...walmart, sears, autozone......

Check out this link http://www.batteryfaq.org/ and then click on Battery Manufacturers and Brand Names List. some VERY interesting reading.

Granted there are DEFINITLY some better ones out there, like the optima and the odessey, but that is why I go with everstart

go see charlie at Battery sales on Pace blvd, behind Exide. They are a Trojan dealer. I have been using a 27TMX on my 16 foot, and I can run my motor for about 6 hours strong. before you  buy anything check them out, I have used alot of batteries in the past, Trojan has been the best. Hope it helps.

If that battery is fairly new it might be the charger that is the problem.  Black and decker makes a "smart battery charger" that works great.
