Was lucky enough to be able to fish friday as the weather was perfect. I had a crew that consisted of me , an 8 and 15 year old boys and their daddy Tim. Hit the pass at 5:45 and made the bait barge shortly after. Loaded up on bait and headed out 24km to snapper fish first. Caught a few nice keepers and then moved farther out. By this time the 8 year old wasnt feeling all that well , which in turn made me not feel all that well seeing all that puke flying around. We both put on sea patches and within a hours we both felt better(great when the captin still get sea sick after 25 years of boating offshore....dang cats!)

We fished on through the illness and found a nice new rock in 129 ft of water holding groupers and big ones at that . We put 2, 10 pound scamps and 3, 25-30 gags in the boat before moving on. Next spot was for Jacks and they didnt disapoint us , hitting the Butterflies with reckless abandon. We caught a bunch all short. Then Tim hooks up on the bottom , and the fight is intense all the way up till the line went slack. Once up , we see a snapper head that weights 18 pounds with the shoulders still attached........what a bummer. That would have been the biggest snapper we have ever caught had it not got stole by a shark.

Now its around 12:30 or so and the sun is so hot with no wind that it almost took the breath out of you. I decided we needed some AC so i felt we should troll just to get the wind blowing(great idea). I deployed 2 rapala cd 18's on wire over the side and procced to slow troll around the area. 2 minutes pass and we hook up to a 25 pound kingfish that the 15 year old lands. Next up is the 8 year old and he get bit and 20 minutes later up pops a 30 pound Blackfin tuna to my suprise. Then 20 minutes later we get bit again and this time the reel is smoking. When the fish stopped it was about 400 yards away from us and under a anochored boat, so i turned and gained line as quicklly as we could and got away from that boat. The older boy was on this fish and between all the jacks and the big king he was so tired. I thought we may have a huge kingfish on , when up come a stripped telephone pole ........WAHOOO. The fish was barley hooked in the peck fin and right at gaff he came off , rolled into the leader and hooked herself in the belly ......wahoooooooooooo that was close . After a few more minutes a sunk the gaff into 61 pounds of hoo and put her in the box.

after that we decided to head in for a few more snapper to finish our limit and hit that diock at 5pm. Had a huge BBQ and fireworks that night , and slept well from all the catching. Needless to say the crew i took had the time of thier life and all landed thier first offshore fish. Final tally 5 grouper , 8 snapper, 1 wahoo, one king and one blackfin tuna and countless memories for the kids.
