| Heard from a good friend that the Red Snapper Season in Federal Waters may be extended to September 30th instead of the August 4th/5th date that wasinitially set for this year. Has anyone heard anything about this change. Certainly would be good news if true

Has anyone heard anything about this change. Certainly would be good news if true Here is the reply from the NOAA Law enforcement agent. spineyman (6:27 PM 7/21/2008): Have you heard anything on extending snapper in federal waters until Sept 30?
NOAA-Enforcement (6:46 PM 7/21/2008): No, I'm sure that is just a rumor

| I'd be very surprised. The only way they could this would be if it were looking as if fishermen (recreational and commercial) were not achieving their total allowable catch targets. A) I doubt people are having a hard time catching snapper. B) Even if they were, the NMFS doesn't HAVE to extend anything. It's an option though. It'd be great if they did then the Grand Slam Snapper category would not be limited to state waters.

| I read in the newspaper that Gov. Bob Riley has extended the season in alabama to october 31st. Although alabama adopted NMFS changes for the 2008 season, he stated that although he has always agreed with changes made by NMFS for the further good of our fishing industry he feels it is unfair that the alabama season should be cut shorter, hurting the charter boat and recreational fishing industry, while Florida and Texas are not pushed harder into meeting the same changes. I'm not sure what this is really supposed to do considering Alabama only has three miles of state waters. I suppose as long as you as you are not boarded in federal waters, you can bring snapper back to Alabama docks until October 31st. This was in the Baldwin Press Register about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks ago. I don't remember what date but I'm sure you can find it on their site. I don't know anything about any other region of the gulf but this is what was supposedly changed for Alabama. ??????????????????????
