OK.  I am seriously thinking about getting off the cigs and was wondering what worked best for anybody on the forum that has successfully quit.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't smoke, so I can't tell you how to quit...I can tell you to look at your Avatar picture and that should be enough to make anyone quit.

Good luck

When my youngest child was born I decided that I wanted to live to see my grandchildren. Quit that day,31 years ago this past May.

I dont smoke but I have seen two people that I work offshore with quit using Chantix. It is prescribed but it works. You will have to want to quit first but both of the guys that quit told me that using Chantix was the easiest it had ever been to quit. Hope you take the step and do it

I quit "cold turkey".  Took me three tries.  The first time (in early 1987) lasted for 6 months, the second time (in late 1987) lasted about a year, the third time (in 1988) which has lasted about 20 years so far.  I did however, smoke for a six-month period in 2005 after Hurricane Ivan.  I was rebuilding my house and started smoking on the job site.  I got around the smell on my clothes by telling my wife the workers at the house were smokers and the smoke got on my clothes.  This continued until she caught me at the job site with a cigarette and stormed off madder than heck.  That made me quit immediately.  Haven't smoked since.  As you get older, the threat of lung cancer and emphysema becomes more apparent.  I've lost a good friend to lung cancer back in the mid 80's in the prime of his life.  I also see too many people lugging oxygen tanks around.  I don't want to end up like that.  The only tanks I enjoy lugging are scuba tanks.

I really hope you find the motivation and strength to quit.  There is so much to live for.  Yourself, your family, and your friends.  Don't deprive them of your company.

Good Luck.

Start a savings fund with all the cig money you would normaly spend.  As your wad grows, the desire to smoke lessons and you can go to Best Buy and buy whatever the hell you want.
