| Does anyone own a Heritage Redfish 14? I was at the Hobie place today scoping around and found out that they were also a Heritage dealer as well. These look pretty descent and half the cost of the Hobie outback & Hobie Revolution. I'm just looking for some input here because I like the mirage pedal system that the Hobie's have to offer but still iffy about paying that kind of price. Just looking for some insight here if you have one and how you like it? Thanks, Jason

| I don't personally own a Heritage but my good friend has a Redfish14. I only got to paddle it once and I only really know if it is good based on what he thinks about it. From what I noticed when I last paddled it was that it was pretty stable, a little bit more stable than my T140, it had a nice seat with it, a little bit slower than a T140 it seemed like but still paddled well, and I kept really dry. I think it's a pretty nice kayak if you ask me, storage is all pretty nice except I don't really like how small the hatch cover is in the front. Other than that it seemed like a great kayak, but those Hobies are pretty dang sweet. If you're going to be fishing A LOT then go with the Hobie and you won't be dissapointed, but if you're just looking to head out every now and then I would save my money. This is coming from someone who loves to paddle though =D

| I've had a Redfish 14 for almost 2 years now and I like it for fishing. I bought it online from Outdoor Play out in Oregon at the end of their product year. They were phasing out the Heritage kayaks and I got the fishing model with a Bending Branches carbon fiber adjustable paddle, an anchor system, a deluxe padded seat, a kayak style PFD (with the webbing down each side for ease of paddling), 2 rod leashes, a paddle leash, and the freight was free with no sales tax!! It ran right at a grand and I am pleased with its handling and maneuverability. I would probably add a rudder system if I had my druthers as it is a bit flat on the bottom and has a tendency to slip a little when you quarter to the wind. Other than that, I am satisfied with it. Now, comparing it to a Hobie is like comparing apples to oranges!! I will be buying a Hobie for my next kayak purchase without a doubt!! But the Redfish 14 is a good kayak in that size and class of craft and well worth the money in my opinion.

My first kayak was a heritage redfish 14 and my second and current kayak is a hobie revolution. my redfish was a very good, stable yak, and with a quality paddle i could get up and moving on it. if i ever went back to a paddle yak and couldnt afford to get a fiberglass/kevlar one, i would get another redfish. having said that, i really dont know if i could ever go back to a standard paddle yak after owning my hobie. it is one of those things you just have to experience to appreciate. other things i like about my revo over the redfish.
1. front hatch is bigger on the revo
2. twist and stow hatches in the cockpit and in the tankwell on the revo. makes for easy reach storage.
3. mesh "pockets" on the revo
4. stock steering rudder on the revo, which is an expensive add on for the redfish.
5. almost hands free fishing.
it is pretty much awesome to use the revo. if you ever want to try one out with the turbo fins and upgraded rudder in place, PM me and we can set something up. if you can afford the price, i believe hobies are the way to go.

Thanks for all the responses. 2000 Flushes, I may have to take you up on that offer!!  . After messing around with both the outback and the revolution, I thought the revolution was more appealing especially with it being longer in length by over a foot. The revolution is the one really weighing on my mind against the Redfish 14. I may have to come out of pocket and go ahead with the Hobie with all the positive responses i've heard about them. I'd sure hate to get the Redfish and wish the whole time that I had bought the Hobie!! Thanks guys, Jason
