| Had the Kayak now for three days...got off early today so decided to try it out. I live 1/4 mile from the old destin pier so I put in @the pompano street access. Paddled out threw the first cig out at the sandbar and the thing went off before I could get it in the rod holder! Reeled in a decent spanish and thought to myself the kayak fishing is fun and easy...continued out to the color change and found a school of cigs...dropped my sabiki and reeled up a full stringer of live ones....put out two and got a double hook up....one got off and I caught the other. paddled out in the dark stuff to a tide line...saw a school of hard tails and through my sabilki at the...instanly broke off so i retied a pomp jig on and caught one on my first cast...put that guy on my big rod and put a dead cig on my other rod...i changed my leader from the 18 pound leader i was getting the spanish on to a 40lb leader in hopes for my bait to stay out long enough to get a king. drift for a while and then the cig rod goes screaming...im sure at this point i have a king but i reel it in only to find a foul hooked monster spanish. I started paddling back in because my back was killing me from it being injured a week ago....All in all I had a blast and cant wait to get back out....I also learned from a guy on the beach that the miss louise is only 3/4 mile from where i put in...i will be bringing an anchor and gps next time =)

| Nice report, Tex! That Pompano St. parking lot is the place where the Hobie guys put in too. It is an easy short drag to the water from the parking lot and it is probably the shortest paddle of any from there to the Miss Louise. I have been wanting to make that paddle out but I don't have a GPS on my yak nor a fishfinder yet so I will wait till I can find it without getting lost somewhere near Cuba! Looks like those spanish were tearing things up out there! Did you happen to spot any pompano when you were out?? I love to fish for them and they are one of my favorite eating fish. Since I moved up to Freeport I don't get down to the East Pass area much but I intend to make a trip or two in the near future if you are interested in going along with me. There are usually a few flounder hanging around the Coast Guard area and the sandy spots between there and the bridge.

I thought I was the only guy kayaking around here with a UT cap. Great report.

Thanks for your concern...ive caught a few hundred of both...yes i realize this time of year there are alot of baby kings running around...for the record it was a fat spanish and all fish were released due to my lack of cooler on the yak...next time they will hit the grill! Thanks for all the positive replys...I understand you were just trying to keep me out of trouble...thanks. Now I just need to build a kayak cart that the yak wont fall off of in the sand...im thinking of going to Home Depot and making some sort of PVC contraption.
