| First of all I realize it is "Predicting" and there is no science that is capible of accurately forecasting what is going to happen.............................But. I think there is a large amount of drama built into both predicting as well as reporting the weather. I have seen for years the path of a hurricane predicted, and fear put into people in order to keep the viewer, which translates into ratings. In short scare people about what is going to happen and they will watch the channel that predicts what they are scared of alot longer than hearing good news and changing the channel to "I love Lucy". The weather channel is notorious for broacasting the worst case and scaring the crap out of people as well as exploiting the trama that people have gone through after the event is over. I am sure we have all seen the microphone go into the face of a crying lady that has lost everything and her dog is still missing, and she is asked "Tell us how you feel, about this Catastrophy"? Or Jim Cantori (jerk) standing in waist deep water with a parka on that is about to be whipped off of him... Come on, don't tell me that is not Drama. Shouldn't this be illegal? How much drama or theater is in Broadcasted weather forecast?

i dont agree with the over dramatization, but they are trying to captivate a market and they blow things out of proportion...they scale a tropical storm like a cat 1 or 2,and a 1 or 2 like a 3 or 4......i would say IMO they 40-50 % above what the actual scenario is.....

bluffman2 (8/27/2008) i dont agree with the over dramatization, but they are trying to captivate a market and they blow things out of proportion...they scale a tropical storm like a cat 1 or 2,and a 1 or 2 like a 3 or 4......i would say IMO they 40-50 % above what the actual scenario is.....So, A grown man standing in a breezeway of a beachfront hotel in order to get the effect of the highest windgust possible so he can stand leaning into the gust while reporting live is not Drama? or Standing where the stormsurge soaks him while reporting how bad things are going to be or already are, is not Drama? I need to learn more, please explain.

1st sententence i said..."i dont agree with the over dramatization".....i meant with them over dramatizing.....guess i should have been clearer...40-50% of what they do i think is drama......heck i seen jim fall down because he was leaning forward way to far to make it look like he was bracing himself in the 22knt wind....now that is drama.....i wasnt meaning for it to sound like i was not agreeing with it being over dramatized.....you ask how much weather reporting is drama and i said 40-50%.....sorry i didnt make myself clearer....
