| I am planing on drilling a hole in the bottom of my boat and want to drill an oversized hole then epoxy it then drill a true hole threw the epoxy. what type of epoxy should i use. I spoke with the men at west marine and boaters world and both said no need to do it this way but I am and they found out my project and said good luck and they can not be part of it. so any ideas???? X-shark I think you did this with your MACO build. whats your opinion? thanks Kevin

| I built boats at Sea Ray Boats in Merritt Island and Flagler for 7 1/2 years total and you never drill a bigger hole than you need in a boat. You drill what you need exactly and no more. You can not fill with epoxy and expect it to hold anything.

| I am not argueing but trying to understand why? if I overdrill the hull and not penetrate the skin. fill the hole with epoxy wouldnt the epoxy absorb into the surrounding wood and bond with the glass resin of the skin? so if the hole does everleak then it would not get the wood wet? like I said im just trying to understand. thanks Kevin

| just to comment, epoxy is not at hard and strong as the glass, if what ever your tring to plum up walks in the hole you will have leaks and possibly a very dangerous situation. I would strongly recommend cutting only what is required to fit what you need and do it tightly then coat it generously with a QUALITY marine sealant, some are for just sealing and some are for things you expect to never remove again, anything under the water should be a very permanent thing. good luck and be safe with your project

| I think I understand what your trying to do, but i wouldnt advise it . You could couse stress risers in the areas surounding the filled epoxy hole due to disimilar strengths and flexability. Im no boat builder, but have watched and examined some awsome fiberglass and epoxy work.
