My tilt/trim gauge has stopped working.  Do the guages go bad or is it possibly a problem with corrosion on awire connection somewhere?

Both. Usually it is a sender or wire. Would help to know what were working with. (Merc, Mercruiser, Yamaha, etc.) You will get more suggestions on what to look for depending on the motor.

Usually that trim sender sticks in the down position. Sometimes you can spray corrosion x, fluid film, corrosion block, or similar then work the sender and see if it will stay freed up. Sometimes there is no hope but to replace it. Usually freeing them is only temporary depending on how bad it is, so you may want to replace it for longevity.

I agree with Kenny. I had one last week, second in six months. Original factory part is plastic. New replacement is metal.

We have a 21" CC with a single 06' 150 Yamaha four stroke and our trim guage, when first purchased the boat, stated the outboard was trimmed all the way up. Our problem was not the trim sending unit but the plastic collar was broken that the sending unit's arm rides on.

That style trim sender has the collar on the steering tube to adjust. It breaks all the time and has been fixed with a metal collar now. If yours has not been replaced with the metal one, plan on replacing it.
