Not sure how many people on here deal with Primavera software. I am a scheduler so I work with it a lot. But Oracle is buying Primavera out. I sure hope that they dont -1) Jack the price of the software up even higher than it already is 2) I hope they don't ruin V6.1, which in my opinion is the best version yet!!!!!!!

Primavera is the required project planning/management software for a lot of Federal operations. Don't be suprised if the price jumps significantly with future versions.

Oracle has been buying various software companies in diffent industries for the last several years - they were going to buy our (energy software) company but opted for our competitor instead.  Typically they buy companies that operate on oracle database backend software but I don't believe primavera uses oracle as a data store (but they do have an sdk and believe they use some sort of sql compliant storage).  Probably not a lot of change in store for primavera since they are pretty mature - maybe a little tighter integration with other oracle backend apps for timekeeping and things that would normally integrate with project management software.

We use Primavera at Solutia for overhaul planning.  I haven't personally had much exposure to it.  I used Microsoft Project on the few occasions that I planned and tracked an overhaul.  There are a few planners out there that use Primavera frequently.  Hopefully this won't cause another change in programs for them.
