| i see people tying balloons on the line while fishing with live fish as bait. why do they do this?

To try and keep the bait at the proper strike zone within the water column.....Or to use tide, wind and current to help get the bait further away.

If you use them, get the ones that are environmentally friendly. Latex balloons last approx 10-14 hours.

| Must agree on the environmentally friendly bit too. Several species of fish and turtles will eat a balloon and its not good for them. Now if you are using them to get lines out only, tie a lifesaver candy to your line and tie the balloon to that. It disolves real fast and then you are freelining a few hundred yards out . To me its simpler than using a kite(wind is always the major factor for both). I use them in outlets of power station cooling stations (working for power co has its plusses) in winter to get to stacked up fish. No boats allowed!
