After cold windy morning on Sat with enough catfish caught to make me almost forget I did catch a 4lb spanish, 4ft shark and 5lb bonito, I started to not even go again until next spring, but as my username implies, I gottafish!

The forecast looked similar, but was much better on Sun. 10/26 at Navarre Beach with clearer water, less wind and pretty slick seas.  Again at first light I caught a spanish on a frozen cig, but this one weighed 2 1/2lbs.  (Not enough light for a pic, so I took it as I was leaving the beach)

Not long after that I catch a 21lb 39-inch bull red on a 7-inch pigfish!

Even after measuring and weighing, he had no hesitation upon his release.  20 minutes later I catch a 11.4lb King Mackerel on a live hardtail.

Soon after I hook another king, but this one is definitely bigger-around the 15-20lb range.  After fighting him for 10-15 minutes he makes another run good run and then all of a sudden a 7-8ft mako shark sky rockets him and my line starts really screaming!!!  He makes another leap out of the water and it is such an awesome site that I grab my camera to see if I can get a leaping pic, but he doesn't jump.  I then just popped the line-call me crazy.  (My condolences go out to the queen and her 2 sons.)

The king run stopped as is often the case after 8:30am-9am.  I was trying to catch some live bait on my 4ft sabiki rod and caught a 3 1/2lb sailcat.  It took 15 minutes to get it in, so it was a nice fight while fishing was slow.  (Even though I do hate those slimy sludge suckers.  Those orange gripper gloves do much the task much easier of removing the hook.)

I decided to paddle back to the pier to try to catch a slot red.  I did in fact catch a 24-inch 5.4-pounder that I kept and a 22-incher on a frozen cig that I threw back.

Headed in around noon.  Since it was such a good day I decided to see if I could catch a keeper trout from the sound.  Tried it for an hour late afternoon and did manage to catch a 16-inch 1.6lb trout on a small pinfish.

Water is getting too cold for my blood now, so I will try it again next April.  After an eventful season, now I gottaspendtimewiththewife.  (I mean get to of course!)

thanks for the report. That must have been cool seeing that mako. This winter if the makos appear in decent numbers off the beaches I'm going to try to get one out of my yak.

I might have to bust out the waders and a heavy jacket and get out and catch some bonita on the kayak soon. They are everywhere!

Thanks for the report.

There were LOTS of bonito out there on Sunday.  I was more intested in catching some fish for the freezer, so I didn't try for them.

Nice job on the King.  Went Sunday late afternoon and actually fished the WIND Monday morning.  Glad I had pedals.  Congrats on the fish.  Great report.

Yes Mark, it was so cool that I gave no thought to any "what if" scenarios until later.
