It's been 4 years since we had to put our yellow lab down. He was a good one !

smarter than alot of people, had a big block head, weighed around 100 lbs, He was an all around perfect dog. I got him when he was 1 yr old with the papers in a distress sale for $100.00. a ton of people told me what a mistake we made by nutering such a beautiful lab

Every since I met Warthogs chocolate lab last winter I been thinking about getting anoter lab pup

against my wifes wishes ( she has a pug and she's worried the pug will not like a new puppy)

If I get another one I don't want a small frame pointy nose looking lab, I want the big frame and the big box head, and the proven smart bloodline. but don't know what color

Anyone want to share info on proven breeders and if you prefer Black, Chocolate or Yellow ?

No "Jack" is still not For Sale.

You know I partial to Chocolate's. I've had Chocolate's since before they were ever popular. My brother now has a Yellow for the kids.

she has a pug

Big dogs are not allowed on the furniture. They take up to much room. It will be much harder to get that thru a new puppies head if the Pug is allowed on the furniture, and I'm sure it is.

You need to look at british lab's. They are more temperant (sp?) than an American Lab. They are also shorter and more stockier breed than the American lab. Any color. A Lab is a Lab and I love all of them.

A raw egg a week helps with that. Then you can call them a "Egg Sucking Dog." HeHe

I've always heard that black labs are most intelligent, then yellow, and then chocolate.  I don't know if there is any truth to this or not.  Either way you can't go wrong, all labs are awesome dogs.  I'm partial to yellow.

I don't think the color matters!

Hogan-100+lb black lab came from a breeder off of Atmore Cut off.  Lexi- 65lb female came from a breeder in Breton,AL.

I have a two year old chocolate block head with papers. I have been trying to find a good home for without running an add or putting her on craigslist. She is very loving but pushy we have other smaller dogs and she don't like anyone playing with or holding them. She also gets on the furniture and in beds. Our house is always full of people and she loves everyone. This is what causes the problems She jumps up on people so she is the first to get petted and it takes 5 min. for her to calm down. Our yard is also smaller than what she needs. I really would love someone like on this post to give her more of a life. If anyone would like to meet her please call 244-3036 Penni or Eric

We have had 3 black females and they were all great dogs. I have known several chocolates, and Yellows, and they were just as great. If you haven't read the book "Marley and Me" you should read it. It describes the life of a yellow lab named Marley, and the effect it had on the author's life. I understand that there is a movie coming out.

If you have the room in your life, and the patience to deal with a puppy, you can't go wrong with a lab!

Any color is great have had all three. Have a chocolate now and going to be breading her in the spring and keeping a black. Then we are going to be looking for a yellow. As far as the temperament of a American hers. a British Lab. I will put my American labs up against any british lab. Only thing I will say is look for a dog that comes with a health guarantee such as eyes and hip min. And if you are looking at a chocolate look for one with a good ped. and a strong black blood line.

We have a female British Chocolate named Luna. She is awesome. I wish she didn't shed so damn much though. I can stand there for an hour combing her out and the hair just keeps coming. Reminds me of a beaver. She is my son's best friend. Can't keep them apart. My son is almost 2 and she is 9 this month.

I didn't see any photos of excavations.  I had one of those "Earth movers" and I darn well don't want another.

All 3 of mine had /have different personalities.

Chip's had the most training and was even trained in personal protection. He couldn't give a Rat's Ass about a ball.

Tootsi lived for a tennis ball.

Jack has several #3 [kiddy] Soccer ball's. Now all I do is kick the hell out of them.

None of my dogs were ever introduced to hunting. They are just campaigns / my children.

I didn't see any photos of excavations. I had one of those "Earth movers" and I darn well don't want another.

Tootsi was my digger. Not bad, but enough. Chip's dug under the fence one time, but that was to try and get to a bitch in heat. [Can't blame him.]

Most digging is lack of interaction. Your not there, so they search for something to do.

Hey, I am not saying that a british lab is better than an american lab. I have always owned American lab's and I would put them up against any British lab too. Just the build he is looking for is more British than American. And ditto on the hip's and eye's. Make sure the hip's are OFA certified.

I've had 2 chocolates, and 4 yellers....never had a black.  My folks use to raise show dogs and labs were always a part of my life.....My folks say that the black and chocolates are more prone to skin allergies.  Right now I have a chocolate named Gator.  He will be a year old in January and is 80 lbs.  Just find what you want and get it.  If you get a puppy it won't matter about the other dog, my pommeranian plays like a big dog with Gator, he just won't go fetch anything in the water like Gator.  Each time I get a lab they get better....I recommend crate training if you are keeping him/her inside.

Here are some shots of my "baby"!!!

Gator's 1st day at the house

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW

Going to fetch!!!

Got it!!!!!

Anyone have any single ladies out there for Gator...He is AKC but I haven't sent off his papers yet.  He came from a breeder in south Florida.

My folks say that the black and chocolates are more prone to skin allergies. This is such a un true statement. Not trying to step on any toes.

Health issues in Labs and any breed. Is in the genetics of the breeding. Black is the dominant gene in the gene pool. If you take your time find a dog that has a strong gene pool with OfA/HIPS, EYES/CERF. and there are a few more things you could look at. If you get a health guarantee on your pup with atleast these two things you are a step ahead. Toward the chance of your dog having any health issue but there is a chance that some things could still happen. I rather spend a little more and have the chance that i will most likely not have to mess with any of the posable issues.

not takin the time to read this thread as it is quite long and takes a while to load, but just wanted to point out that color is just a recessive gene in labs, as opposed to the common mistake some people think that chocolate, black, and yellow labs are in fact different species. here is a link explaining the genetics http://www.blueknightlabs.com/color/coatcolor.html

color is simply a matter of preference. behaviour from one color lab to another is not a constant, i.e., a black is not guaranteed to be more hyper than a yellow.

Amen!

Midwest makes Crates that are large enough for when they are full size, yet has a partition that is movable. The partition is a must for fast training.

I dog will not lay in their own crap, but will go to the back of the crate and do it. Then lay in the front.

Great Quality, Folding Dog Crate

• Cuts Housebreaking Time in Half by keeping puppy from eliminating in one end and sleeping in the other.
• Allows you to adjust the length of the living area as your puppy grows into its adult size home.

I leave Jack's "box" setup all the time and that's where he gets fed. Sometimes when he's a PITA and I'm trying to do something I just tell him "Go get in your box." and he does, getting out of my way.
