Has anybody ever tried one of these?

I'm thinking about ordering one on-line unless I can find one locally.

I've seen similar ones in restaurants and have been tinkering in the garage trying to build one.  Without a welder to work with I decided to look for something already on the market

You stand the oyster on edge and with the lever drive the "tooth" into the seam -  I watched two guys at a New Orleans oyster bar open up several bags real fast.    One "pops" the oyster with this tool, the other with a regular oyster knife finishes the job, cutting the muscle.

I tried it and you quicky learn not to crush too hard or you shatter the shell and get bits into the meat.

For opening up a lot, especially ilregular, or cluster oysters they work well.

i love mine.  slow even pressure is the trick.  also does not work well with thin shelled oysters.

i love mine.  slow even pressure is the trick.  also does not work well with thin shelled oysters.

I watched Mark open a couple dozen at the air show party. He was opening them faster than three poeple could eat them. He made it look easy.

WOW!!!!! WHAT A RIDE.

Dammit man, Looks at all that weld spatter!  My dad built a couple in the past but they got shuffled around to different family members. I need to build us a new one.

I'll 2nd the fragments of shell ... unless you are very carefull. I prefer a Carolina knife.

the weld spatter is on purpose, it helps keep the oyster from slipping.

I have one just like the second one shown, had it for years, found out its only needed when you have the large oysters from Tx or La. Key is a good glove, and a good oyster knife with Applach oysters.
