well needless to say, opening day for me was great other than missing the morning hunt. to start the morning off, a friend called me at 10 this morning and said that him and his wife had downed two pigs and could not find another. then they said they saw some deer, just no shots. hopefully he sill post his story soon. at noon, my best friend called and said they had 6 bucks on the ground in two dog drives. one was as 8 pt with an 18 inch spread and another was a nine point with a 16 inch spread. all the others were basket racks. by now i am pumped up to shoot something. well i go to a wedding and head out to my closest spot that i know to get something, most likely being a pig but thats ok. me and my brother strike out and are in the tree by 3 o'clock. nothing but tree rats till about 5. then pigs come from everywhere. they are all around us, all shapes and sizes. well i did not take my bow becasue i was wanting to get a for sure kill but naturally a nice sow ( 132 lbs) walks in at 40 yards. BBOOOOMMMM. oh well, guess the 270 wsm gets another notch.the pigs run everywhere and i did not get another shot. i got down to get my pig cause i had a long drag and they are still around me but never get a shot. my brother comes to help and says that he had the hammer on his 460 pulled back needing a pig to take two more steps and he could have shot. but i shot and scared them away. i wish he would have shot, cause he was right by the boat. as i was climbing down i seen at least 200 woodies and a few mallards fly over and start pitching right out of sight. they were all pitching in the same area. guess i will go find out where this week for opening day. on the way home, another friend calls and said they got a pig to. all in all, it was a great day for me and my friends. sorry for so long but just had to say.

this is a picture of her ear. a perfectly round hole about 1/4 inch. maybe a bullet from someone missing. probably another pig bite. i just thought it was cool.

Congratulations..... I have never killed or consumed a wild pig. How does the meat compare to domestic hogs?

I would have said the same thing about being caught with the dogs that could be a tooth hole.
