| Joe Scarborough? Paul Finebaum!? That explains it right there. No credibility in any information concerning Auburn that comes from either of them. You won't find a finer and more humble person than CTT. The first time I met him was the day after Auburn lost to Alabama for the first time in Jordan-Hare stadium. I ran in to him at Wal Mart. The head coach was at the podump Wal Mart in Auburn after losing to his biggest rival. He had the wife and kids, I didn't want to bother him but I just said "War Eagle coach, you did a good job this year" and kept walking out. Pushing the buggy with his son, he followed me out and says, "well, we aren't even close yet but we're going to get there." Then over the next 15-20 minutes he continues to break down the playcalling from the game. "What did you think of that 3rd and short call." Also talked about how good Shuan Alexander was. I just tried to go on because I didn't want to keep him but he just kept going on and on like we were just two big Auburn fans breaking down the game. After that chance meeting I was sold. He wins, he wins with class. Auburn now has an FCA program that teams from around the nation come to learn (Alabama did last summer) how to get football players involved. When Tuberville was hired he hired an offensive coordinator, a defensive coordinator. Then he called the team chaplin and said, his team needed a spiritual coordinator. He knows life is more important than football. Players graduate, they don't continiously make the paper for arrests and if they do, he disciplines them. Pro scouts over the last few years have said when you get an Auburn player, you are getting more than a football player. If they played under CTT you know you are getting a quality individual that is going to work hard and never cause trouble. Those are the things that make up a "class act" in my opinion. BTW, the Tuberville "pine box" comment happened 10 years ago and CTT himself has said he didn't handle it correctly and he learned from his mistakes. I agree, that was stupid but that and him holding up fingers to his own crowd are VERY weak arguments. The only thing he has done that an Alabama fan can consider classless is he beat them 7 times. But regardless of the above, the name of the game is winning. Hey Wharf, do you really worry about Paul Johnson? Personally, I love his offense because I have a soft spot for the option/veer but do you really think that would strike fear in the hearts of SEC coaches on a week by week basis??

When I heard that he had been let go I couldn't belevied it. I am a die hard Bama fan and I think AU screwed up!! He has won 6 Iron Bowls in a row and he has I think an 84% win record with Auburn. Good luck getting a coach to jump at that job!! What alot of pressure taking a job like that.

Funny seeing 'Bama fans posting on this thread. I would think they wouldn't care with the SECCG against Florida coming up. The comment about Coach Tubs being classless and lying to recruits is hilarious coming from a BAMA fan. Bama's coaches have NEVER done anything like lie to recruits
Sure is easy to talk trash when your 12-0 huh
Hard to tell what Auburn is gonna do now as it looks tonight like plan A and B are not coming through. This could be a train wreck of a move(then again, keeping Tubs probably would of been in the long run too). Hope the powers that be up there know what the phuck they are are doing............

Seems the rumors on al.com are that Tuberville has resigned and was not fired. Might be a way for Jacobs and the athletic department to try to save face. Who knows. Anyway I sure am sorry to see him go and I do hope AU can bring on someone who is worth a darn. From where I'm standing I think Auburn's in for a tough couple of years. Here's hoping it isn't.

Let me get this straight.....so because he shops at Wal Mart after a loss to a rival and stops to talk to you about it, he has class?? You start your argument with credibility yet you fail to support any of your statement with any credibility. Also, he I was there in the Alabama student section when he held up 5 fingers towards us. I was right behind the guy who responded by throwing a gatorade bottle and struck one of Auburn's key players in the face. The guy who threw the bottle was in no way correct in his actions but I know for a fact they were provoked by Tommy Tubberville's classless gesture. Maybe he went to Wal Mart the next day.....if so then the classless actions that night were negated.

Chris Hood (12/3/2008) I've got a bad feeling that the barners will get Paul Johnson. That aint gonna happen. And by the way his offense struck about 450 yards of fear into one preseason #1 UGA team and beat Miss St. like a drum!

The only thing he has done that an Alabama fan can consider classless is he beat them 7 times. But regardless of the above, the name of the game is winning. i guess he would have to beat them 7 times in a row before we could do that wouldnt he i agree with Chris Hood on this one, he is one arrogant son of a bitch! Pat Dye said it himself! he came and spoke at an athletic booster club last year in Gulf Shores. i will quote him word for word, "that six fingers bullshit is gunna quit! that is arrogant and it will come to bite him in the ass. it shows no class at all." but i will give him this...he did beat us those six years. some of the years we were horrible! and some others we should have beat yall, but itn is the iron bowl and anything could happen. goodluck finding a new coach!

No one said 7 in a row. I always find it funny when they say a "coach resigned" but they dish out millions of money for the buy out clause. Looks like they're are going to try and get one of these guys. Mike Leach, Will Muschamp, Jimbo Fisher, Skip Holtz, Butch Davis, Paul Johnson, Turner Gill or Brian Kelley. We shall see..... If we get Skip Holtz I may jump.

| It is not surprising that the AU fans have completely dogged the UA program, team and coaching staff for several years and now start whining about a little ribbing when their team is having problems. I love college football as much as anyone and have always been and will be a dedicated Bama fan. Remember that this is a game and a sport and it is not worth fighting about or losing friendships over. Every team has a time when things are not good no matter how good they are or how much they have won. Look at FSU and Miami. They dominated in the 90's and now they are going through a rebuilding process like Alabama has had to do due to the low lifes we had running our program that got us in trouble. Everyone has their day. Everyone enjoy the games this weekend. I think you will see just how great a team Alabama is on Saturday. I also think that both teams will play with class because of the two coaches they have.

Hike, you're a Bama fan, so your reading comprehension level is expected to be low! Just joking. Rusty, I don't think we're whining. You guys were great this year. We stunk it up this year. The majority of AU fans see the big picture and impact that Tuberville and his staff have made on the lives of these players on and OFF the field. There's a book "Hard Fighting Soldier" that I think even an Alabama fan would be touched by. I read it this past summer and it's about Auburn's team chaplin. Pretty amazing what they've done up there the last 10 years. And as far as getting mad, I thought we were just doing what makes the rivalry great, bickering. I don't know Chris but I'd take him fishing on my boat tomorrow, if he paid for the gas.

Really hate to hear this. Tuberville represented Auburn wonderful on and off the field. He is a complete class act. I wanted him to hire a completely new offensive staff and give him two years to "right the ship" but oh well. Leach is the #1 target. No Auburn alums doing well that I can think of. Sullivan had his shot. Pat Nix is 10 years away but a decent young OC. Vince Dooley's son is doing good. Vince went to Auburn but coached UGA. I'm sure his son would come to AU but don't think he is ready. AU always has strong ties with UGA so Muschamp comes to mind. I think Leach and Butch Davis will be the first two. Tubby was far from a class act.... Elaborate on that comment. I'm a huge AU fan and I agree that he's a class act. He runs a clean program, never has players in trouble with the law, never been on probation, ect... Just curious as to how he's "far from a class act" How about telling his Ole Miss players he wasn't leavig and then sneaking into the night 6 hours later to Auburn. All class...sure he is. sounds like a certain ex-Miami Dolphin coach I know

| Letter from AU AD Jay Jacobs on yesterday's events: December 4, 2008 While you have no doubt read or heard numerous reports about the resignation of Coach Tommy Tuberville, I felt it was important to speak directly to the Auburn Family about where we have been and where we are headed. First, let me share a little about the timeline of what has transpired. Prior to Tommy and I meeting with Dr. Gogue on Monday morning, I asked Coach Tuberville to outline a comprehensive plan to address some key issues related to the future of the program. The three key areas were: What it will take to elevate our program to the next level where we can consistently compete for SEC Championships and beyond; recruiting and how we can attract the caliber student-athletes we need to reach that level; and the stability of our coaching staff moving forward. Over the course of the past two days, Coach Tuberville and I had several discussions on these and other important issues. On Tuesday afternoon, Coach Tuberville told me he wanted time to think about and discuss with his family whether he wanted to continue leading our program after a difficult year. Coach Tuberville then told me of his decision to resign as head coach early Wednesday afternoon. Coach Tuberville assured me that he was committed to remaining an active part of the Auburn Family and wanted to do everything he could to ensure a smooth transition to a new head coach. Given his assurance that he wanted to help build on his legacy and ensure a bright future for our program, it became clear to me and to President Gogue that honoring the terms of his contract was the right thing to do. Coach Tuberville has been an outstanding head coach who has represented Auburn well on and off the field. Under his leadership, our student-athletes have represented Auburn in a first-class manner. I know you join me in thanking Coach Tuberville for all the good things he has done for Auburn and wishing he and his family nothing but the best. In our search for a new head coach, we will be looking first and foremost for a coach who is the right fit for Auburn and who can elevate our program to the next level. We will move as quickly and efficiently as possible, but we will be thorough and strategic in our search. As we have seen from the experience of other schools in recent years, speculation and rumors will likely be rampant throughout this process. Just know that we will not be speaking publicly about the search or disclosing potential candidates until a new coach is hired. We will be retaining the services of a search firm to help us identify the best possible candidates for the job. This enables us to get the deepest possible pool of candidates in a confidential manner and ensures that we will be able to get as much background information on candidates as is possible. I want to emphasize that it is not the search firm's job to hire a coach. President Jay Gogue has charged me with that task. I will make a recommendation to the President once the best candidate is identified. I also want to assure each and every member of the Auburn family that we will continue to support our football program at the highest level. We appreciate your support during the good times and the tough times. We need your support now and in the days ahead. Change can be daunting and difficult. We need to celebrate and appreciate all that Coach Tuberville did for Auburn and vow to pull together as we move forward into a new era filled with promise. Always know that as your Director of Athletics, my responsibility and my promise is to always do what's best for Auburn. That will never change. God bless, and War Eagle! Jay Jacobs Director of Athletics

The diffence between Bama fans and Auburn fans are most of Bama nation wanted their coaches fired and for good reason, thing was finding good replacements.Tubs did not deserve this and 99% of us fans are behind Tommy.I thought jetgate taught those goons something, guess not. Here we sit with no coach while the fatcat egos are drinking martinis.Sickening.

I really jumped the gun when I found out Tubbs was gone...I assumed the rich alums, AD and Pres. had pressured him out...Tubbs will always be in the Auburn Family.. The man is a great coach and has done a great job at AU. He really cared about his student athletes...They have the highest graduation rate of student athletes in the SEC with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. He always made sure they were prepared for the real world after a college football career..
