If this question has been asked by Curtis before, then excuse me! I am expecting a lot of people to say such figures such as "dad," or "grandad," but let's see what some of the other responses are. Not so much "who got you into fishing," but rather who taught you most about the particular fishing you enjoy the most? Be it inshore, bluewater, or noodling for catfish (man-sport).

Freshwater, an old fishing striper guide named Bill Gaither. Saltwater has been an accumulation of TV personalities, this forum, Saltwater Sportsman, Florida Sportsman, Sport Fishing magazines, a few very nice deckhands and captains as well as my own trials and tribulations.

The person who instilled the passion, respect etc. for fishing would be my Grandfather. Although I've fished with people like Spider Andreson, Rip Cunningham, Peter B. Wright....the list goes on, the person I learned the most from application wise would be Matt Froom. He was the captain on the boat that I grew up deckhanding on and in my opinion is one of the best fishermen alive.

I've mentioned it before on this forum in other threads, but I don't mind saying it again. Mike Peacher is hands down the most influential person in my fishing experience as far as knowledge. He is one of the most knowledgeable pier fishermen I've known, and always quick to share. Although he's taught me a lot about pompano, cobia, king mackerel fishing, among others; tarpon fishing from the pier is where he shared the most with me.

Mostly trial and error alot of reading and watching guys like Elmo, Roddy Pate and those guys that were pier regulars back in the mid 70's both Narvarre and Pensacola Beach.
And in the days that followed the islanders came to know him as kane mano, the shark hunter....... http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com/gallery.asp?gallery=1718 "TEAM KANE MANO" "The 2008 Spring Unoffical PFF Shark Tourney Winners!"

Man I sure hope Tim does not see this post. My father started my addiction growing up in the Keys and Flamingo. I have had the pleasure to fish with many blue water crews in Hawaii, Midway island, Australia and so on. But I will admit that my son Tim in the last three years has renewed my passion for all TYPES of fishing. His attention to the very smallest detail of fishing is what impresses me most. If you have read a few of our post, you would see Tim and I fish a lot (just the two of us). This year the two of us have been able to catch a Blue ,a Mako, many Tuna, Wahoos, Dolphins, Groupers, Snappers, Floundera, Sheephead, Cobias' and a lot more. Many of our freinds that fish with us now aboard RECESS, will tell you it's like a fishing classroom every time we leave the docks with Tim aboard. His dad Gene
You never know unless you go.

Hands down my grandfather Max. We used to stay with my grandparents after school which was walking distance from Cordova Park. I would ask him if we could go to the garage just so i could look at all of his fishing equipment. I would sort my tackle box at least 2x a week. I remember even casting into a hula hoop that he would lay out on the lawn for me to practice casting. He taught me how to tie my first fishing knot. He used to take me and my sisters down below the old cervantes bridge(before the bayou was pooped in) to catch pinfish. I fell in love with fishing and graduated to catfish ponds. Well with plenty of saltwater fishing and not much freshwater we started saltwater fishing. He used to take me to the old bay fishing bridge. We would pick up some live shrimp from the old tackle store at the foot of the bridge where we would also get a fishing report before we went out. I remember just looking at all the pictures that John had taped up just hoping I would one day be lucky enough to have my picture up there, haha. We would catch white trout, ground mullet, plenty of catfish, and a few suprises thrown in. Well with his old age and bad diabetes we never get to fish together anymore but I credit my love of fishing to my grandfather. He was my "foot in the door" so to speak and it has been an addiction ever since even though I dont get to fish that much anymore due to being at school in tallahassee.

The guys I regularly fish with (you know who you are if youre reading this). Bryan Bennett has been a huge source of info; I learned a great deal about swordfishing from Chris Vecsey; Wade Hatten and Keith Johnson; definately not Chris Hood though. nope.
