I went sharkfishing off of OB Saturday night. All I had to paddle out bait was my daughter's inflatable boat from Souvenir City (Insert you might a redneck joke here). I had a my surf rod w/ 25 lb test attached to a 10ft 60lb wire leader w/ an 11 ot hook. I was using a large croaker for bait. I set it out around 6 and let it soak til around 9 - no luck.

I have a question. I can set my spinning real to free spool. For future reference, should I let it out in free spool or should I lock it down like I do when I'm after normal surf fish reds, blues, pompano and such? I figure I'll see the spool spin if a shark picks it up and set the hook after I'm sure he's got it. Also, do you use weight sliders? I did Saturday night and it seemed to work well.

Sunday morning I was fishing in the same spot for my usual. I had 2 rods - one w/ shrimp and the other with cut bait. The shrimp rod did very little good, but the cut bait was getting killed by blue fish early. I caught 10 blue fish in about 30 minutes. Some were really good size. Like a spigot though, the blues turned off. I waited around 20 minutes, and thene the lady fish moved in. It was all I could do to keep the rods baited. After 10 or so I was tired of feeding the ladies. I packed up and called it a day.

If anybody here fishes on OB, I fish in front of Shoalwater. PM or post here me if your gonna be sharkfishing or whatever close by. I just started this year, and I could use some pointers.

Cut some of those bluefish up for sharkbait and paddle it out.

That's my plan this weekend. Those suckers are bloody. Too bad chumming is illegal.
