| What type of oil should go in the clutch? I was told use the same as the motor. I figured it would be a thinner product. We have the Detroit 149 Series Engine and I belive a 540 Clutch? Does that sound right? Anyway, couldn't find nothing on the internet, most likely didn't know what to type in. I would like to have something in black and white to take back to the office if it is a different type of lubricant. We use Rotella 40 in both. Thanks

| OK, On further checking I'm thinking the 540 is the transmission type. Anyways, its the big thing right behind the engine that the shaft bolts into. That is what I'm looking for as to what lubricant to use. I guess it is a Allison 540 transmission. So is using Rotella T40 safe to put in it??????????? I would think something else like a transmission fluid of some sort.

Murph, If you are asking what type of fluid to use in the TRANSMISSION (Allison AT-540, and others), that big thingy thing (see photo) that the drive shaft hooks to and not the engine, Mobile makes a TES-295 approved for Allison Transmissions...not to be confused with diesel engine oil. I'll look up and see if there is a sub.http://www.allisontransmission.com/service/autoapp/172/viewpage.jsp?ThisPage=3
