| Hey folks, I got a 2000 Ford Explorer...When I try to start it it's very hard to start UNLESS I turn the key and wait about 2 seconds..Then she cranks right up..Is this a sign I need a new fuel pump? Thanks, C7

| Theres a good chance its your fuel pump, but thats odd being a 2000. Unless its got a lot of miles. When you turn the key a little bit do you hear the fuel pump kick on?

| Honestly..I couldn't hear nothing. If I wait 2 seconds she fores up.Yesterday I visited a church...it was not like I expected..My son and I escaped out the side door..I forgot the 2 second rule and almost never got her started..Panic City started in..LOL When I bow hunted near Highway 85 in Laurel Hills I discovered the problem. I had finished hunting and turned the key..She wouldn't start..Some passer by said,""Shounds like fuel pump to me." I turned the key and waited a couiple seconds..she fired up..I just hate taking it in to a mechanic only to get ripped. I appreciate the feedback. C7

| Try changing the relay first... I've got an 01 dodge stratus with less then 40K miles, that iv'e had many problems with.. it started something like that come to find out it was the relay we changed it no more problems like that.. Except when you go to fill the tank, it likes to spit and sputter until you burn some gas..

When was the last time you thought about a fuel filter change.

Before I drove to Laurel Hills I had tha tdone as well as a complete tune up..The engine light is on as well..BUT when I had that checked... it mentioned central cam shaft balance or something..Auto zone shut the light off for me about 2 months ago..but last week it came back on.

Try getting the fuel filter changed. That might help the problem was having the same sorta problem with my S10 a while back changed the fuel filter and haven't had any problems with it anymore. That is just my thoughts on it.

Remove hose from intake of filter. Use a jar or other suitable container. Remove coil wire. Have someone spin engine to see (and you can hear) if the pump is in fact working. Before I replaced anything I would jump the fuel pump to see if it will work, and use a test light to see if you in fact have voltage to the pump while the key is engaged. Perform test with the key in the run and start position.

no expert here...but since its a newer suv it will have the fuel pump in the tank and you wont have to turn the engine. usually when you turn on the key the pump cycles for about 3 seconds. take off the inlet fuel line and get a cup or something to catch the fuel...get someone to just turn the key on, all the way on but without trying to start and see if the pump cycles. then go from there. hope this helps.

If bad will chew up a couple hundred dollar bills. Yes it might pump in the run position and not in the start position, so check in the start position also. The problem can be in the ignition switch (key switch is not the ignition switch) under the dash. Have seen problems of the such.

| also may get your key checked. If it has a chip on it may be going bad. We have a grand am that if you turn it to fast it doesnt read the key and wont start. Light came on had the code read and it thought it was someone trying to steal it. Just a thought Good fishing everyone
