Looked at the weather about midweek from VA and the GOM looked great. Called a couple buds and lined up the Sea Party to go fish JimT's Red Fish Regatta - But the rest of the story.
WX and TDY's forced me to miss the last four Spring rish tourny's. So I thought we'ed hit this one but with the WXman calling for 1-2 and a slight North breeze we couldn't pass up going out for some bottom dwellers. Loaded the boat with a special cargo Fri night and left the dock about 0500. Got to Garcon bridge at 0520 and -FINALLY- remembered a CRITICAL item for the special cargo. Turned around and headed back to the dock. Made the turn at the pass 0650... Some days!! Anyway Me Jerry and Hama were headed out to fish in a beautiful weather day and looking forward to seeing some guys at the Redfish Bash after 1500.
Hit the first spot just before 0800 and got done with the work at 0930. This after a regulator went blowing and kept me topside but not before suiting up and getting in the water. Long process but it'll be worth it!!
So now we were heading South from Navarre and hit some Timber Holes areas. Lines in about 1030 and the first drift produced two fat gags.

I worked my jig-n-stick on and off adn caught a bunch of 22-25" AJ's. Fun but after a half dozen I thought I'd try the chicken rig and started putting some baits in the live well. well the AJ's would not leave the jig along and I caught two at once three times....

We did this for another two hours and after a nice endangered Red Snapper was released we headed out to the SE rocks to Bump for a bit and see what happened out there.. Thought we'd get into a nice bunch of mingos but the edge for us was quiet.

All in all a great day when the sun popped out behind the front around 1100.
Tally,
2 x Gag
20+ 22"-25" x AJ's
8 x White snapper
1 x Scamp
1 x ARS (14#) and still swimming...

| Really good informative report. I have been thinking about the timberholes but just haven't made it down there this year. Usually when I intend to head that way the seas are coming out of the southeast and it makes it too tough. I was surprised you didn't have any triggerfish in your tally of fish. I had heard they were down there pretty thick a while back. Those are some pretty gags though. Did you jig them up or catch them on bait?

Snapper went away happy and didn't get abused by flipper. Also- didn't need to vent.
Couple points - We thought we'd load up on triggers - marked what looked like a Ass-Ton but didn't catch a one They are my favorite!! Didn't have bait stolen as that would have given them away.. So ??? on the triggers Always have loaded up out there.
- Flipper is very aggressive and becoming a major Ass-Pain. Bastard stole baits on the way down, fish on the way up and at least one rig when it got itself foul hooked.
- Ran the boat 173 miles Sat When's Navarre Pass opening?

Hey Stressless, I fished the same area on Friday. There was some Triggerfish out at the Timberholes but it was very hard to get a bait past the AJ's. We had a school of 30 or so AJ's swimming right at the boat. I bet I could have caught them with a dip net. The Edge was dead for us as well......Nice Gag's, we came up empty on them.
