| Me and five of my best friends are taking our yearly trek to Venice in search of tuna. With any luck we will get into some wahoos as well. I will post pictures Sunday night. Over all a great day of fishing but the lumps are NOT going off. We met up with Capt. Gary Bryant (Red Eye Charters). He said the bite has been slow for the last couple of weeks with only a couple of yellowfin and a few more black fin being caught during that time period. He told us if all we wanted to do was fish the lumps he would not take us because he said we would not come back next year. Instead we did some rig fishing east of the lumps to start out our morning. We caught five o.k. size AJ,s and a nice size scamp. We had about 15 break offs on the rig. The captain was doing everything he could do to pull them away from the rig but they were still getting caught up in it. After hitting several rigs we headed to the lumps to catch some B-Liners and try out luck for the elusive tuna. First drop we started pulling up the B-liners two at a time. A little later a small shark and them Rob's rod bowed up like he was stuck on the bottom. After a long hard fight he pulled up a 30lb snapper. To bad they are out of season. We had a quick photo opt. and let him go...We did end up landing two tuna which was one up on all the other charter boats. There was one charter guy that brought in some big AJ's. Good trip with great friends...

we fished the lumps last weekend too (sat 16th). we fished aboard the Mother Lode. we were the boat that brought in the big AJ's. i caught one black fin but that was the only tuna caught on our boat. i did catch a 57lb AJ. that SOB kicked my a$$. i will also say that they know how to raise the mingo's down there. i think those fish should be listed on the mitchell report. great trip even though the yellow fin didn't show. venice is definitely an interesting place. i can't wait to go back next year.
