Walked the beach west of the pier with nothing to show so I decided to hit up Sikes on the way home. I walked out with no gear just to see what was going on and it just so happened to be the end of incoming tide and people were catching a good bit of white trout. So I went back to my truck and grabbed some Gulp and my new 8lb braid ultralight setup to see if I could get my first fish with it. I dropped my Gulp shrimp straight down and let it get pulled out with the current. 30 seconds later and I pull up a nice 20in+ flounder, but sadly he shook off while I was waiting for a net. Stay another 20min until the tide died and caught a half dozen whites. I remembered that the wildlife rescue center needed some fish for their birds so I kept a couple for them. Not a bad little trip.

It is always good to break in a new rod and reel. I think flounder are the best fish at getting rid of a hook in their mouth. Thanks for the report.

I was awfully curious about the Gulp baits too -- just haven't mede the investment -- hate to w/o some feedback about their performance.  I assume you fished it off the bottom? Thanks for the report.

When you let it float out did you have any weight on it?

3in new penny shrimp on a 3/8 jig head. Dropped it straight down and let the current drag it out along the bottom with the bail open. Gulps are definately worth the investment. If you can't afford to fish with them all the time use your regular baits and lures and if the fish aren't hitting those switch over to the Gulp as a last resort. A cheaper way to get the Gulp benefits is to buy the cut bait sheets and put a small strip on other soft plastics.
