| I wouldn't mind travelling and pulling my rig down to Venice LA sometime and venturing forth from there fishing a few oil rigs here and there. Problem is, looks to me like you would spend more time navigating rivers and canals than you would the distance going out to sea to get in 50+ water depth. My usual offshore range is up to 30 miles or so weather dependent...... Going out of Venice looks like a big time "fuel tab" run to me .. 60 gallon capacity......?????? I have lots of fun off DI and Pensacola but always wondering if the fish bite better down the way? Somebody who has been there/done that give me some perspective....... Thanks

| You're gonna need a bigger boat, 24 mile run down the river from Venice, at least 14-25 mi run to any decent tuna rigs. Can go out of Tiger pass to west delta for snapper, grouper, cobia, but local knowledge of tiger pass is required. Can fish for bull reds at SW pass.

Thanks If you are looking for a 30 mile range, I would rule out Venice. Once out in the Gulf (about a 20 mile trip) that won't leave much leftover. Extra fuel onboard would be a must.

| Go on a Venice charter before you go. You will learn much from the Captain, and will get a "feel" of what it's all about fishing this area. I've been told that there is no Sea Tow in the area, may have to depend on the CG for a tow if you have trouble. Venice is isolated (60 miles south of N.O.), not much in dining choices, not much in lodging, and Louisiana charges plenty for out of state license.  Sea-r-cy

| I'm glad you asked this question, and I appreciate the responses. I have toyed with this idea myself. Sounds like the grass isn't any greener in LA. And, although Alabama had them beat until late in the fourth quarter - and let them off the hook. Football might be the only exception to the rule - for now that is!

I'm glad you asked this question, and I appreciate the responses. I have toyed with this idea myself. Sounds like the grass isn't any greener in LA. Don't write Louisianna off just yet. It's a great fishery but you need to be aware of several things mentioned. If you've got the fuel capacity you won't be dissapointed. I took an 18 foot boat there in 04 and we had a great time.
