I'm Looking at rebuilding all 4 carbs. Is this something that a somewhat mechanically inclinded individual can do? Or am I entering hells kitchen? I have been told by some Harley enthusiasts that it's not to difficult to do. I know there is some issue of timing the carbs just right. I'm just looking for some input and maybe a reccomendation from you all if you have any. Thanks.

If your mechanically inclined at all, you should be able to do it yourself. a repair manual never hurts either. I've done the carbs on a Honda, it wasn't bad. Good luck!

Good luck!I feel like I could do it my self but I have gotten some mixed Opinions. Not concerning my skills, But the timing issues. Theres 4 carbs on the older Kaw's not two like the newer models. The timing is what I really no nothing about or understand. Is that all controlled by the carbs?

Its not timing, its balancing. to do this you need a manifold of 4 vacuum gauges so you can set the vacuum the same on all four carbs. You can do this by ear. But, the only way to get top eff. is by using the gauges. I have a set but I am 600 miles away.

There is a lot of difference working on a single Harley carb than there is on 4 jap carbs. Sincronizing is the main issue with the jap multi carb. just my .02

| Its easy....Just get the parts and rebuild your carbs. You can find a mercury vac gauge online pretty cheap. Connect a line to each vac port on each carb..they will have little rubber boots on them usually. Run the bike at idle and adjust to get all 4 carbs pulling the same vac(all levels of mercury the same in the guage)...or just get it running and take it in for a mechanic to balance...but save your money on the rebuild. Its to easy to do yourself.
